Good Vibrations

By Elizabeth Erenberger

As students of metaphysics we often find ourselves focused on healing modalities which can benefit others and promote healthy lifestyles. But as we hold space for others through powerful emotional release, we often notice a sort of residual energetic pull on our own energy and health.

These are the times, as healers, when we need to clear our own energy fields and to “re-ground” in our own bodies, homes, and sacred spaces. Experimenting with ways to detox and diffuse from a days work can be one of the most important skills a counselor or life coach can master.

Sound healing is an ancient and powerful tool for shaking up, clearing, and releasing feelings of stagnation, fear, or anxiety. There are many tools which can be used not only to clear a space, but also to invite in positive energy, set intention, and create a feeling of spiritual tranquility. Here are a few sound healing strategies for getting your body and mind back to center, which can also leave your home and work spaces feeling fresh, clear, and free of energetic residue.

  1. Drumming: Drums are an ancient and powerful way of both clearing and invoking energy. This powerful sound can break up negativity in your home and environment, and has been proven to have a similarly cleansing result on body and mind.
  2. Rattles: Rattles have been used for centuries in a variety of cultures as a tool for shaking up stagnation in the body and auric field. Depending on the innards of your rattle, you may receive very different sound and vibrations. Rattles are popular in the practice of Feng Shui  for clearing rooms and other spaces.
  3. Bells: Bells have tonal properties which seem to pierce and charge an environment with their clarity.
  4. Singing Bowls/ Crystal Bowls: If you haven’t yet experienced the magic of these ancient vibrational tools, I suggest you do some research. Singing and Crystal bowls are generally used to induce a meditative state or enhance a transformative physical or spiritual experience. They are powerful and resonant, tuning in with our chakra system and transforming and moving the energy in a space.
  5. Gongs: Gongs can be traced back to ancient Asian culture and were used to break up energy and send alerts across long distances. They are often loud, and if large, their vibrations can be felt from very far away. Their ancient sound lingers long after the instrument has been struck, permeating the space.
  6. Chimes: Chimes can be used in a grouping, or separately to create scales and sound spectrums.  When made with quality materials, chimes can be deeply evocative to the psyche; enhance dreamtime and inspire meditative practice including shamanic journeying.
  7. Tuning Forks: Tuning forks are a unique and less known option for vibrational healing.  The practitioner usually wears a grounding pad on the leg, which acts as a stabilizer for banging the fork against. Once the fork is struck it will begin to emit a vibration directly connected to the shape and size of the fork. Many practitioners will have a whole set of forks ranging in pitches in order to create the right pitch for each healing. Forks are then placed on meridians throughout the body to break up stagnation and raise the patient’s over all energy and mood.
