About UMS
The University of Metaphysical Sciences (UMS) is headquartered in Eureka, California, about seven miles away from our previous office in Arcata, California. Our administrative office serves students worldwide.
Having a wide range of voices, writing styles, and perspectives keeps the material fresh, interesting, and dynamic. Courses are updated regularly and serve as a reference library that can be used well into the future. Learn about some of the UMS course authors here.
Enrollment and Cost
Many of our prospective students already have advanced degrees or are professionals in a metaphysical field.
We stand behind our program and our graduates, and must know that each graduate has been exposed to the material we cover in our program. Additionally, the program is most beneficial when experienced in its entirety.
All tuition plans cover the full program- bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate, for one price.
Digital course materials are included in the cost of tuition, and printed materials are available within the United States for an additional fee.
If you feel you would qualify for this scholarship, and it would be helpful to you in getting started with the program, please apply! It is a simple process and we will let you know if you qualify when we respond to your enrollment form submission. Please submit the scholarship application at the same time that you submit your enrollment application.
- Withdrawals within 30 days receive tuition minus $150.
- Withdrawals within 30–60 days receive tuition minus $300.
- After 60 days, no refunds are given.
- Course materials sent through the mail are not refundable.
Credentials, Accreditation & Limitations
For a complete list of degree titles, visit Metaphysical Degrees & Credentials.
Upon completion of the master’s program you are also offered the option of being ordained by Wisdom of the Heart Church.
The AADP and AAMA meet the need of accreditation on the part of those who practice and teach metaphysics. It consists of many metaphysical practitioners and schools. The University of Metaphysical Sciences degree program has been evaluated by both agencies and meets all of the criteria to be granted accreditation. The AADP accredits the undergraduate degrees at UMS, and the AAMA accredits the doctoral level degrees at UMS.
UMS, as a religious exempt school, is not eligible for the same type of accreditation available to academic universities. For more information about accreditation, visit the accreditation page on our website.
The Ph.D. is a great option for those who wish to publish books and give lectures, as the Ph.D. is preferred by publishers and event promoters. Some students choose to get both credentials, and in this case, the second doctorate can be applied for.
Students are not required to choose a doctoral degree title until after completing the master’s, and most students gain clarity about which doctoral degree title to pursue as they are reaching that level.
If you choose to use the title of “Dr.” in front of your name, you must be very clear about what your credentials are and to never misrepresent yourself. If you do use the title, expand on it to state specifically what your degree is in, for instance: Dr. Jane Doe, D.D., Doctor of Divinity. If you are working in the medical field in any capacity, we recommend against using this title, as it could easily be mistaken to mean that you are a medical doctor. Similarly, if you are offering counseling services it is very important to be clear about your credentials and that you are counseling in a spiritual capacity to be sure you are not mistaken as a psychologist or licensed therapist.
We encourage our students to be very clear in presenting their credentials, especially when using the title of “doctor,” so there is never any cause for confusion by the public.
Curriculum & Course Format
Because acceptance of all people’s spiritual experiences and belief systems is something that UMS deems vitally important, we focus on a neutral and factual presentation of all kinds of beliefs. We do not ask that you believe or practice anything that you feel is not right for you, but we do ask you to keep an open mind when learning about the great variety of spiritual beliefs people hold. This can be especially helpful when, as a spiritual teacher or counselor, you find yourself working with people from many different spiritual backgrounds.
We encourage you to browse the list of spiritual / metaphysical courses offered on the bachelor’s curriculum and master’s curriculum pages, as well as our many elective course options.
The most powerful thing that you will learn as a student, is about your Self, your gifts and skills, and your own true nature. We also encourage you to peruse through our course excerpts for a glimpse into what you will experience as a student.
Courses vary a great deal in length, but are generally between 20-100 pages in length. Each course has an exam that includes true/false and multiple choice questions. These exams are primarily meant to enhance your integration of the material. If the course has meditations, you will be asked to share your experiences with each of the meditations. Download sample courses and meditations here.
These meditations were all created by Christine Breese, the founder of UMS, with music by accomplished new age musician, Michael Hammer. They are very unique and powerful, and are the heart and soul of the UMS curriculum.
We encourage students to fully experience these meditations to whatever degree they are able. Going as deeply as possible with the meditation work is what gives you the greatest potential for having a truly transformational, life changing journey with UMS.
Upon completion of your enrollment, you will be set up with a profile in the student center, which you will be able to access through our website. This is the main hub for your metaphysical degree program, and where you will download course materials, choose your electives, submit your exams, view your transcript, and keep your contact information up to date. You will be sent your login information via email upon completion of your enrollment.
If you are in the United States or other country we ship to, you have the option of adding printed material for an additional fee.
Postal Add-on:
- Printed materials are 3-hole punched for insertion into binders, and guided meditations are on CD.
- For all students, the first set of courses is sent inserted into a 1-inch binder.
- For payment plans, future shipments contain printed material only, and you will supply your own binders.
- With the prepayment option, the remainder of the courses, inserted into an additional nine 1-inch binders, is sent out after electives have been chosen, usually about three weeks after enrollment.
International Shipping:
- If you are outside of the United States and are interested in having the printed material sent to you, please email ums@umsonline.org for shipping costs.
- Due to the expense of international shipping, we only send the printed material with the prepayment option. You are always welcome to have the courses printed locally.
- We are sorry, we are not able to ship to the European Union.
Multiple choice exams are submitted through the online student center, and are automatically graded by our system. All exams are pass/fail, a passing score being 80% or better.
About a third of our courses have guided meditations as part of the course, and those exams include short answer questions asking for feedback on your experience with each of the guided meditations. Once submitted those exams go into a queue to be reviewed and responded to by our exam proctor, which usually takes about a week.
In the exams, we encourage you to write about your process, whatever it was, and be gentle and accepting with where you are on your own path. We have a very supportive philosophy, and feel that there is no wrong way to experience these meditations, as long as you bring your full awareness and presence to the experience.
Once an exam is reviewed and passed you will receive a copy of the exam, including any feedback from faculty, by email and be able to view it in your transcript in the student center.
Projects & Dissertation
All student projects and dissertations are submitted electronically, via email.
The master’s project and dissertation are also not graded. If your submission does not meet our requirements it will be returned with a request for changes to be made. Once passed, you will receive comments on your work from faculty through the student center or via email.
Program Progress & Timing
The length of time it takes to earn your degrees depends on how much time you have to devote to your studies, as well as the payment plan you choose.
All students begin at the bachelor’s level and proceed through the master’s and then onto the doctorate.
- The bachelor’s curriculum has a total of 50 courses. The courses vary a great deal in length, but on average you can figure you will need to spend about 6 hours per course, depending on how you study.
- The master’s program has a total of 30 courses and a large final project (written options are a minimum of 3,000 words).
The requirement for the doctorate is a 10,000 word dissertation on a metaphysical topic written to our specifications.
- Bachelor’s Degree: 6 months from date of enrollment
- Master’s Degree: 4 months from completion of bachelor’s degree
- Doctoral Degree: 2 months from completion of master’s degree
Students who prepay or enroll in short-term payment plan and dedicate roughly 12 hours per week can finish within these limits. There is no maximum time limit.
*For prepayment or the short term plan please review the time minimums for completion mentioned above.
Student Support
UMS staff provide only limited spiritual support through brief calls and emails. We do not offer in-depth counseling, psychic readings, or crisis intervention.
We strongly encourage you to cultivate and utilize your own support system and have access to local teachers, mentors, healers and counselors as needed, particularly in cases where you have experienced trauma, abuse, or mental health issues.
If I don’t have the money for the down payment will you guys be able to work with me? I have extremely tight budget.
Thank you for your question! Yes, we can help you get started without having to make a down payment. We offer a partial scholarship which waives the down payment on the long term plan (see payment plan here), allowing you to get started by making your first monthly payment. Once you are ready to get started, please fill out and submit the enrollment form and the scholarship application on the same day.
If you have any further questions, feel free to call us at 707-822-2111, or email ums@umsonline.org.

I have a BS in Psychology and a Certification in Hypnosis. I want to acquire my Masters and Doctorate with you. I don’t have to get another Bachelors with you, do I?
Hello,
Given your background, I can understand you feeling like you are ready to enter the master’s program without having begin at the bachelor’s. However, our program is very unique, and so different from an academically based, secular process. Many students who enroll have advanced degrees, so this is a topic we discuss frequently. While we respect and honor the previous journey, education, and life experience of each student, it is important for us to be sure that each graduate has been exposed to the material we cover in the program. We believe there is great value for students to progress through all levels.
The bachelor’s level takes the student through an inner journey, with much self-inquiry and exploration of consciousness, as well as a great deal of information spanning the field of metaphysics. The master’s level takes this process even deeper, and also prepares the student to teach or become a professional in the field. The https://metaphysicsuniversity.com/ums-curriculum/ums-doctorate-program/ shows the student’s deep dedication and commitment to a particular field of study, and brings a high degree of professionalism to the graduate’s credentials.
I encourage you to take a look at the curriculum for both the bachelor’s and the master’s levels, and check out the sample courses we offer for download.
We hope that you understand our position with this, and think that you will agree after the fact that the benefits of this entire process are very powerful and transformational throughout, and worth the time and intention expended.
Please feel free to email ums@umsonline.org or call 707-822-2111 with any additional questions you may have.
Blessings!

Are there fees associated with your Degree and Schooling once the courses are completed? Or once you have the degree do you have it forever?
Hello,
There are no fees in addition to the tuition, course materials and shipping costs listed on this page. Your degrees and ordination remain valid, and there is nothing additional you have to do for them to remain so once the program is completed.
Blessings!

Is it possible to obtain M. Div degree in metaphysics? Also I have Master’s Degree in another field. Do I still need to get another bachelor degree in metaphysics to qualify for M. Div program?
Hello,
Thank you for your question! Yes, we do offer a Master’s of Divinity, M.Div. You can see all of the degree title options here.
We do require all students to start at the bachelor’s level. While we respect and honor the previous journey, education, and life experience of each student, it is important for us to be sure that each graduate has been exposed to the material we cover in in our program.
Regardless of a students’ background, there is much to be gained from progressing through each level. The bachelor’s level takes you through an inner journey, with much self-inquiry and exploration of consciousness, as well as a great deal of information spanning the field of metaphysics. The master’s level takes this process even deeper, and also prepares the student to teach or become a professional in the field. The Doctoral level shows the student’s deep dedication and commitment to a particular field of study, and brings a high degree of professionalism to the graduate’s credentials.
We hope that you understand our position with this, and think that you will agree after the fact that the benefits of this entire process are very powerful and transformational throughout, and worth the time and intention expended.

We’re glad you asked! Yes, here’s the link https://www.bbb.org/us/ca/arcata/profile/college-and-university/university-of-metaphysical-sciences-1116-361783
Is this an online program?
Hello,
Yes, this is an online program. Courses are downloaded as pdf files for the reading material, and mp3 files for the guided meditations. There is an option to add on the hard copy version, where you would receive printed material and the guided meditations on cd. Exams at submitted through our online student center.
If you have additional questions, please feel free to email ums@umsonline.org, or call us at 707-822-2111.
Sending joyful blessings!
Judy, UMS Advisor
Yes, entirely online.
Hello: Can you build a career if you have not previously been in this field and changed paths? Or is it only intended for students working in spiritual / metaphysical fields already?
Many blessings!
You can create your own career in this field, it doesn’t have to only be for people already working in this field. We are preparing anyone and everyone who wants to be in this field, even if they are just starting!
Doing a degree program would be a great way to start a new path and bring credibility to your work. It’s not just for people who are already working in the metaphysical fields. Just starting out, on the path of service for a long time, this serves both endeavors!
Upon enrolling in the initial Bachelors program, how long does itn usually take to complete all courseworks leading up to a Doctorate/PhD? What is the total cost to attend all courses? I am a bit confused.
It takes about a year to complete everything up to the Doctorate/PhD degree, and the cost is $950 if you download everything. If you want postal mail for all your courses, it’s more. The download version of courses is the most affordable at $950.
I am already adept in biblical knowledge having been a student of online bible college and worked as a church worker for 3years in a spiritual church. Can I ask for direct ordination as a Pastor?
No, we only ordain those who have gone through our program. We need to make sure that all our ordained ministers and reverends have the same education, and that it is in the metaphysics category.
Unfortunately we cannot facilitate that. Only those who have taken our courses can be ordained.
Is the tuition cost listed for all 3 degrees or is it per semester/year/degree?
Yes, it is for all three degrees, no extra costs.
Yes, all three degrees. No semesters or years. It’s just one payment for all three and you can do the courses on your own timing and pace.
What is the time frame for completing the bachelor’s curriculum?
Not exactly sure what you mean by that, but if you are wondering it takes about 6 months to complete the Bachelors requirements. Some people take longer or shorter depending on how busy or not busy life is for them!
It’s all in your own timing, no set limit of time. Just complete everything as you can and you’re good!
Good afternoon,
Is the material that is sent per mail the exact same thing as the downloaded pdf or are the materials that are sent per mail more detailed than pdfs ?
Everything sent in the mail is the same as what is downloaded, nothing is different or more detailed. It’s all the same whether it is mailed or downloaded.
Yes, everything online or mailed is the same material. The mailed versions are packaged nicer, have a cover and nice art on the cd, but other than that, they are the same.
I am from Canada. Are the tuition costs in USD? If they are then what are the CAD prices?
Yes, prices are in USD.
Is there a commencement or graduation?
Hello,
We do not offer a graduation ceremony for students. This is because our students are located all over the world and the program is self-paced, so everyone graduates on their own time. We do encourage students to create their own ceremony or to honor their graduation in a way that is meaningful to them. Sometimes, students will visit the retreat center, Gaia Sagrada, in Ecuador to have their diploma awarded in person by Christine Breese, the program founder. Also, in the past Christine has offered free retreats in the United States and has held a special ceremony where graduates have been honored and presented with their diploma. Of course, with Covid restrictions, these kinds of events and the retreat center have been on pause. We will have to see what the upcoming year brings, but you can always check back with us when the time comes to see if there will be any kinds of opportunities like that happening.
Blessings!
Do you accept student from the United States for your doctoral program?
We are a U.S. company and accept students from all over the world. All students begin at the bachelor’s level and proceed through the master’s and then onto the doctoral program.
Blessings!
How long has UMS been around, when was it founded?
Hello,
University of Metaphysical Sciences starting accepting its first students in 2004. Development of the idea and the courses started in 2000.
Blessings!
Is there a time limit to come back and receive the additional $300 doctoral degree after completing the first?
Hello,
There is not a time limit on returning to complete a second doctorate; you are welcome to do this at any time, a minimum of two months from your first doctorate. The cost is $400.
Blessings!
How do I know which one of these I am earning?
Bachelor of Metaphysics, B.M.
Bachelor of Metaphysical Sciences, B.Msc.
Bachelor of Divinity, B.Div.
At the bachelor’s and master’s levels the program is the same regardless of which degree title you ultimately choose. For these levels, once you have completed the requirements for your degree we will ask you to choose your degree title.
Blessings!
About how long from the time of submission of the enrollment application, should I expect to hear from someone about the statusof my application?
A lot sooner than this reply! We typically reach out to enrollments each morning, so it depends on the time of day you submit your form, but you should hear from somebody within 1 business day.
Blessings!
Can I use my 529 plan to cover the cost of tuition?
Hi- It looks like money from a 529 plan can only be used for academic universities, so we do not qualify. We do offer affordable payment plans! See the payment plans pages.
Blessings!
I am already ordained with another church, as a Rev. Can someone be ordained in more than one place or are there rules around that? I have been ordained for a very long time and do not want to mess that up, but i am very interested in doing these studies.
i also am not sure what you meant on your info pages regarding picking one of the titles for the degree but all of the classes are the same for all. does that mean i have to choose what the titles are in advance and if i want more than one i have to take the whole thing over again just to get a different title? it is mostly the masters and doctorate level i am questioning since i already have a “degree” in paranormal studies and would like the higher level title but i also would like the metaphysical titles. just not sure how that all works.
Hello,
Upon completion of the master’s requirement all students are offered the option of being ordained by Wisdom of the Heart Church. This is not a requirement, so you do not have to receive the ordination.
At the bachelor’s and master’s levels there are 3 degree title options: a Bachelor or Master of Metaphysics, Metaphysical Sciences, or Divinity. The coursework is the same regardless of which degree title you ultimately choose; you will be asked to make this choice when you finish each level. You may only earn one bachelor’s and one master’s degree through University of Metaphysical Sciences.
At the doctorate level there are many degree titles to choose from, listed on this page. We will ask you to choose your title (or at least narrow it down to a few options) as you are developing a thesis statement and beginning research for your doctoral dissertation, since the topic for your dissertation must relate directly to the degree title you are seeking. If you wish to pursue a second doctoral degree, the requirement will be to complete a second dissertation on a different topic, and the fee is $300.
Feel free to reach out if you have additional question. We can be reached by phone at 707-822-2111 or by email at ums@umsonline.org.
Blessings!
Hello UMS team!
And happy 2021 summer to you all! I’d love to clarify the following 3 items, please:
1, Is the current cost for all three degrees $950 USD or $875 USD when paid in full at the time of enrollment? I’m only asking because I can see these two different rates on your website (the special pricing page + the FAQs page), so I’d like to to be sure.
2, With regards to the delivery of course material, I’d like to try the first option (downloads only) but I’ve never studied in this manner before, so I’m not sure if this would suit me 100% (I’ve done correspondence learning before). Should I discover that I’d prefer to switch to option three (shipped materials), would it be possible to do that at any point of my studies? Provided I pay for the international shipping fee (to Canada), of course. 🙂
3, Do I understand it correctly that the only additional fees would be for the second doctoral degree ($300 USD, should I wish to go ahead), or are there any other fees that I can expect, even after paying for all three degrees in full at the time of enrollment?
Thank you so much for your time, I hope that my questions make sense and I look forward to your reply.
Eva 🙂
Happy summer to you! I am happy to answer your quesitons:
1.The current prepayment cost for all three degrees is $875 USD. This price goes until the end of July, and may or may not extend beyond that.
2. Yes, if you find that the downloads aren’t working for you, you can request the course materials through the mail. We will be able to provide a quote for the cost of shipping at that time.
3. Yes, a second doctorate would be an additional $300 USD. Diplomas are sent out first class mail, so if you wanted expedited shipping we would charge for that. There are not additional fees.
If you have additional questions feel free to give us a call at 707-822-2111 or email ums@umsonline.org.
Blessings!
Awh, thank you so much for your reply! I’ve been wondering when I’ll receive your email and checking my inbox daily, so I just went here to double-check and I can see now that you responded just recently! Blessings and I can’t wait to send my Enrollment Application soon. Blessing, Eva!
Hello,
At what point would we pay the $300 doctoral add on and is there a portal for this on the site?
Thank you
Hello,
The bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate are all included for one price on the Payment Plans page. The cost for a second doctorate is $400. Students can request this be added by emailing UMS staff at ums@umsonline.org.
Good Morning to you, I have a question? I was not great with the typical mortal schooling so i left school early. Ok I dropped out! I eventually went back and received my G.E.D. but that was many many years ago. I have since taken the path less traveled to get to where I am, many bumps and curves, and wars, and healing, and spiritual healing. My question is to you do I have to send in my transcripts or my G.E.D. certificate when I enroll? Because that paper has been long gone, and I have no idea how to get a new copy of it. I have wanted to a career in Metaphysics and Parapsychology, since well forever, I have always been drawn to the subjects. I have finally gotten up enough nerve to go ahead and get my degrees, I would hate for anything to force me to actually hold back on enrolling.
Also are the mailed course material in actual book form, or paper form with a staple so I would I have to get folders to keep them organized?
Hello, Thank you for your interest in UMS! A G.E.D. is perfectly acceptable, and you do not need to provide a copy of it. There is a checkbox on the enrollment form for you to verify you have a high school diploma or equivalent, which you do.
Downloads are included with your tuition, and are in the form of pdf files for the written material and mp3 files for the guided meditations (sample courses and meditations available for download here). Printed material is 3-hole punched for insertion into binders. We send the first binder with your first set of courses. If you prepay for the program you will receive the rest of the courses organized into 9 additional 1-inch binders (for a a total of 10). If you choose a payment plan the courses will be sent 2, 4, or 8 at a time and will not include additional binders. CDs for the guided meditations are sent along with the printed material.
If you have additional questions feel free to email ums@umsonline.org, or call 707-822-2111.
Blessings!
If a child says that sometimes it feels like she’s watching a play, would that be related to your metaphysical science? thank you.
Thank you for reaching out. We are not qualified to answer your question about your child, and would recommend finding someone local to work with to explore this further.
Blessings to you and your child 🙂
Am I reading this correctly? You need to take the three levels in sequence? I have two Masters’ degrees. One is in Psych. Would I really need to take UG courses?
Hello,
Yes, because of the unique nature of our curriculum, we do require all students to begin at the bachelor’s level. This program is so different from an academically based, secular process. There is great value for students to progress through all levels. The bachelor’s level is the inner journey, with much self-inquiry and exploration of consciousness, as well as lots and lots of information spanning the field of metaphysics. The Doctoral level shows the students deep dedication and commitment to the field of study, and brings a high degree of professionalism to the graduates credentials. Many students who enroll have advanced degrees, and we respect and honor the previous journey, education, and life experience of each student. We think that you will agree after the fact that the benefits of this entire process are very powerful and transformational throughout, and worth the time and intention expended.
I hope this is a helpful, though a long winded explanation 🙂 Please feel free to reach out if you have further questions at ums@umsonline.org.

I read this is self paced, however some universities have due dates, which is for example due every Monday by a certain time, and timed tests. Does this institute have the same due dates for tests at the end of the book like in the sample and are the tests timed?
Thank you for your question! This program is truly self-paced; there are no due dates. There is a minimum amount of time you must be in each program to be eligible for degrees: six months for the bachelor’s, four more months for the master’s, and two more months for the doctorate. There is no time limit on completing the program. Exams are not timed. Exams are included at the end of the course and submitted through our online student center. To see what our exams are like, you can download sample courses here.

Hello, I was wondering about the Reiki class in the Master’s program. I am already a Certified Reiki Master in Usui, Karuna, and Holy Fire. Will this be another type of reiki or does my current attunements and certification work for this course?
Hello,
The Reiki course discusses the history of Reiki, benefits, different practices, and some basic techniques, etc. There is no prerequisite for this course, and it does not attune the reader. Feel free to reach out with additional questions by email at ums@umsonline.org, or by phone at 707-822-2111.

Approximately how long is each course? Are there exams/written assignments for each course?
Hello,
Courses vary a great deal in length. Some of the courses with meditations are as few as 10 pages, other courses are 100 pages or more; most fall somewhere in the middle. I encourage you to check out our sample courses and meditations. These courses and meditations are part of our curriculum and will give you a good feel for what our courses are like. Feel free to email ums@umsonline.org, or call 707-822-2111 with additional questions.

Hello,
I am planning to enroll very shortly, maybe a week or two. A question I have is what if I am interested in taking more than 15 of the electives? What, if any, additional cost would it be?
I am planning on pre-paying instead of time payments and getting the printed material since I am nearing retirement and do better with physical books over computers.
Hello,
If you are prepaying and receiving your courses in the mail, you can add-on the all the remaining (beyond the 15 chosen) electives for an additional $50. Feel free to reach out with additional questions by email at ums@umsonline.org, or by phone at 707-822-2111. We look forward to hearing from you again soon!
Blessings,

Where can I find descriptions to each of the title designations in the doctoral degree programs?
Hello Cynthia,
Each of our degree titles can be found here. Our students choose the title designation that best fits how they plan to use their degree. The curriculum is the same regardless of the degree title with the exception of the electives and the dissertation.
Can someone explain the different titles for the degrees.
Example
If I pick bachelors of metaphysics vs bachelors of metaphysical sciences does that lead to different career chooses idk which one is more diverse or recognized?
I have no clue which one would work best for me
You are going to be making your own niche in the world so whichever degree title you pick is fine. It is up to you. Neither of them would limit you. It is not like you’re going to be answering ads in the news paper and applying for a job with this title. This is to bring credibility to your own work as a healer, teacher and leader in this world in the field of spirituality.
Both will lead to the same career choices. You have to make your own career for the most part in metaphysics, and it is up to you what niche you will create. Both degrees are valid for whatever you choose! The curriculum is the same for both. Also, you can change what you choose later, if you like, closer to the end of your education if you change your mind on what you want the title to be.
Are any of the exams open book?.
Yes, they are all open book exams
Yes, they are all open book. They are mostly just to make sure you did the reading.
Hello,
We generally contact a new enrollment the next business morning after a form is submitted. If we are having a very busy day it could take a bit longer, so feel free to reach out during business hours if you are ready to get started!
Hi I would like to apply soon but of course the dissertation is a bit scary and gives me anxiety:(. Are there any other options like a final exam? Are there professors to help because even thinking about writing 10,000 words gets me sick.
Hello, I understand your concern about the dissertation seeming overwhelming!
That said, most students feel more prepared for the dissertation after having completed the bachelor’s and master’s programs. The final project for the master’s is smaller in scope, yet gives you the opportunity to complete a project from scratch in preparation for your work on the dissertation. We have very specific guidelines for the dissertation, and an outline which breaks the process down into achievable steps. By breaking the project down this way you can focus on one step at a time and hopefully avoid overwhelm. Advisors are available to consult over the phone or offer feedback on any written portion you submit along the way.
It is not uncommon for a student to feel somewhat intimidated by the idea of writing a dissertation. However, on the other side comes a deep knowledge of your chosen topic for research, as well as a huge feeling of accomplishment for following through with the process and earning your doctorate!

Hello. This has most likely been answered all ready, however can I pay for the extra electives when I am done with my Masters? They look interesting to me and I love education.
Absolutely! Yes! You can take the extra electives if you like, they are very affordable.
How much is it to just get a Bachelor’s degree?
It depends on the payment plan you choose, but the bachelor’s only tuition ranges from $700 for prepayment to $850 on the long term plan. Payment plans are slightly different if enrolling for the bachelor’s only. Feel free to call 707-822-2111 or email ums@umsonline.org with addition questions. Blessings!
Is there a time limit on course completion? For example, if enrolled in the two-year payment plan, how long does a student have to complete the course? Can the requirements not be completed until three years even when on the two-year plan?
Hello,
The program is self-paced, and there is no time limit on earning degrees.
Blessings!

I am really impressed with the curriculum. This looks exactly like what I need! Myself and my two children are moving from New Mexico to New Orleans area so a fully online program looks really like a perfect match. If I choose the one year program and have difficulties keeping up once we move to New Orleans, can I slow down? Once we move will it be difficult to change the mailing address for any further correspondence from your school?
I am happy to hear the curriculum is just what you are looking for! The program is completely self-paced, so regardless of payment plan you can move through the courses however it fits into your life, and it’s fine if you need to take some time off during the move. Contact information is kept up to date through our online student center, so updating any information is easy. Feel free to reach call 707-822-2111 or email ums@umsonline.org with additional questions.

Hello!
I noticed that in the University store, you can purchase courses that are offered in the course curriculums. If I were to purchase a course from the University store could I use that as credit toward my bachelor’s degree?
Individual courses ordered from the store are for your own personal interest, meaning we do not accept exam submissions or offer feedback. In order to receive these student services, you would need to be enrolled in our degree program. Thus, there would be no credit given for a previously purchased course, other than you would already have read through it when that course came up for you in the program.
If your ultimate goal is to complete a degree with UMS, I would encourage you to go ahead and enroll as a student, so you can work through the program from the beginning, receiving support and feedback along the way. If you are curious about what the courses are like, you can check out the free sample courses and meditations available here.
Feel free to call or email with additional questions.

Hello,
Does tuition include access to all course materials or just selected ones for our degree plans?
Upon completing each degree, will graduates receive a physical diploma as proof of completion? And can we also get transcript records upon request as well?
Upon completing a doctorate program, can a graduate legally use the title “Dr.” in their name?
I would love to complete this program as a personal goal, but I was curious about these things as well! I think they would be beneficial in a professional setting as many courses seem to also be beneficial for interpersonal relationship skills.
Hello,
Downloads of all courses listed on the bachelor’s and master’s curriculum pages, plus 15 electives are included in tuition, regardless of which degree title you choose for each level. There is an option to receive courses through the mail as well for an additional cost.
A physical diploma is mailed once all requirements are met for each level of the program. An email transcript can be requested free of charge, a hardcopy can be sent in the mail for a small fee.
Yes, upon completion of a doctoral degree a graduate can legally use the title of Dr. That said, it is important to be very clear about what your credentials are to avoid confusion. In using the title, we recommend expanding on it to state specifically what the degree is in, for instance: Dr. Jane Doe, D.D., Doctor of Divinity. If a you are working in the medical field in any capacity, we recommend against using this title, as it could easily be mistaken to mean that you are a medical doctor. Similarly, if you are offering counseling services it is very important to be clear about your credentials and that you are counseling in a spiritual capacity to be sure you are not mistaken as a psychologist or licensed therapist.
Feel free to call or email with any additional questions.
