It is readily observed that people who are seemingly very healthy often live in a state of immense dissatisfaction. Many live in a state of depression, with feelings of frustration, resentment, jealousy and insecurity. One would normally assume that these feelings are unique to those who aren’t healthy, however in most situations this is not the case. We tend to think that people who aren’t biologically or physically healthy are in a state of tremendous suffering, often in the face of illness or death. How is it that a human being who is dying from cancer can function from a place of peace while a human being who is seemingly healthy in every way functions from a place of turmoil, sadness and dissatisfaction with life? The adaptation of our human experience, the joining or connecting of our physical body to our energy body allows our mind to experience a metamorphosis of sorts, a natural change in our thinking, one that can allow a human being to find peace against extreme adversity. It is a change which allows a human being who is dying of cancer to feel joy and experience peace.
In spiritual traditions, this is regarded as the highest stage of human development and is recognized through numerous expressions. Moksha, nirvana, and revelation are some of the many terms which explain the process of living in a state of oneness and moving from illusion to realization, imprisonment to liberation, and death to rebirth. In the course of human existence, important questions come to mind: What is at the fundamental core of human development? What is the foundation of spiritual realization? To answer these questions, we can look to the study of transpersonal psychology. transpersonal psychology was founded and based upon the idea that on a trans-personal, mystical, spiritual dimension, the essence or Self exists within human beings as humanity’s true nature.
This course serves to teach essential transpersonal healing techniques to UMS students and reveals its relevance as a tool to assist healing in humanity. This course also demonstrates that at the core of transpersonal psychology is the study of humanity’s highest potential and with the recognition, understanding, and realization of unitive, spiritual, and transcendent states of consciousness. It also demonstrates that individuals can reach a high state of consciousness which allows them to experience transpersonal awareness. Through consciously engaging in combined transformative practices, such as energy healings, meditation and more, individuals can experience a unitive state of consciousness, a consciousness needed to achieve the state of peace which resembles that of the human being dying of cancer.
A transpersonal experience is defined as an experience of altered states of consciousness beyond ordinary time, beyond normal space awareness. It is the feeling of present-moment awareness, a feeling of deep inner peace, a feeling of blissfulness, and a sense of oneness or interconnectedness with objects of experience.
This understanding of the transpersonal experience is also known as nondual awareness. Nondual awareness includes among other things the experience of wholeness or the perceived unity of subject and object. It encompasses the established transpersonal premise that personal growth may enhance the potential for an individual to be open to this experience.
