Expect the Best!

by Matt Johnson

I was listening to Christine Breese today on Youtube. As I write this, the date is December 29, 2020. The post was called the “Paradigm Shift Can Be Smooth for You.” She asked the listeners….can we all focus our intention on making this time of great shift not so painful, miserable, dark and yucky? That is my paraphrase of course! Go on Youtube and give it a listen! I listen to Christine on Youtube every day. She is always amazing and I always learn something or at least feel really good afterwards.

My thought was…YES! We totally can make this time of transition smoother and nicer. We CAN make our lives better through positive thinking. I do this all the time. I REFUSE any other future in my mind, but one that is totally awesome!  A Star Trek future! I am constantly told by my wife, my boss, friends, etc…. Matt…you are the most optimistic person I know! I have no doubt in my mind that is not always a compliment!

How did I get this way?  Is it because I have had the easiest life? No. I did have a fairly wonderful and safe childhood. My parents told me I was great all the time. Everything made sense. However, even then, I was bullied, beat up and mocked by other kids. I got into a lot of fist fights. Not all the time, but enough that it definitely brought some negativity into my soul. My adult life has also been extremely painful and traumatic at times. I am more than well-acquainted with death and sorrow.

I remember being taught by my dad to always expect and prepare for the worst and if things are good that will be a nice surprise. A lot of people believe and teach this. He meant well, but I now realize that was not good advice. As we know from the study of metaphysics, his approach almost guarantees a lot of bad stuff is going to be attracted! And while he had a pretty good life by most standards, it also contained a certain amount of unnecessary hardship.

I used to think like that because my dad was a really great guy and I respected him. I still do love and respect him. He came from a place of growing up with no father and under some difficult circumstances. He went from there into military and police work. Those are tough and sometimes unpleasant settings as we all know. He did what he had to do to survive, both mentally and physically. He also taught me a lot of positive things such as being kind and sticking up for those who cannot stick up for themselves. He hated bullies and was always encouraging me to look out for weaker children, especially gay kids who were bullied. This was back in the 1980s when discussing bullying in schools or gay rights was unheard of for the most part. Even in his positivity, he viewed the world primarily as a place of battle. He chose the light side to his credit, but there was always a warrior mindset. There was never any thought of peace being possible someday except in Heaven.

How did I get to be so annoyingly positive? My mom. My mom is a woman of tremendous faith. She pounded the Bible into my head and I learned the words of Jesus “you have not because you ask not. Ask and you will receive and your joy will be complete!” Jesus teaches the power of positive thinking many times like this. This is also the law of attraction or magic! This has stuck with me my whole life. To give my dad some credit on this, he did have the saying “we can always make more money” which was his way of saying stay positive and keep on keeping on. However, his mindset was primarily that of an old fighter. A good guy, but definitely the hard nosed cynical cop type. He was always ready for a fight.

Don’t get me wrong…I am not against self-defense at all. We live in a dualistic reality. Reality cannot exist without duality. In this physical plane, in order for there to be life as we know it, there must light and dark. Without it, this whole computer program we call reality will crash. It will always be that way and learning to accept this brings great peace. Why did someone die? Because, as Yoda says, “that is the way of things, the way of the Force.” This is explored in all the Star Wars movies. You can learn a LOT of spiritual truth just watching Star Wars.

This Universe is a constant flux of light and dark, back and forth, ever seeking equilibrium. A rock is thrown in a pond and it makes a big splash. Then it settles down. Perhaps your spouse cheated on you so you got a divorce. You had a mole on your forehead that your doctor told you was nothing. You move to another state because you can no longer afford where you live after the divorce. You go to get signed up with a new doctor and that doctor tells you the mole is actually cancer and needs to be removed at once. If your spouse had not cheated on you leading to a divorce and a move, you would have stuck with your old, incorrect doctor and died of cancer. This is the ebb and flow of life in a dualistic universe. Sweet and sour.

We are not going to rid this world of duality nor would we want to. We cannot. Before God, there was nothing. God/the Universe/the Force/the Unified Field (whatever you want to call it) wanted to not be a “nothing”. It wanted to have a purpose and not be alone. That is the most anyone can ever know about what came before all this, including God him/herself. Then BOOM, the Big Bang, let there be light, fiat lux! And here we are. If there is light, there has to be dark. Otherwise, nothing.

So Christine got me thinking. Actually this has been on my mind for a while. We cannot live without darkness, but that doesn’t mean the darkness we fight has to be each other. Lets imagine a world where the only darkness humans fight is hunger, poverty, natural disasters, disease, etc. Let us imagine a world where we fight…yes fight HARD…but not each other, but to take CARE of each other and all the other creatures of the Earth as well as the water, land and air.

Let us imagine that world! In my previous article “The Prayer”, I created a prayer to get us on the road to making that happen. Find it and pray that prayer! Let us not expect the worst…more disease, war, anger, pollution, oppression, poverty, etc…NO. Replace those thoughts with thoughts of a beautiful Star Trek future for Earth! Focus your mind on health, happiness, peace, prosperity, fun and love! Expect the best! It WILL happen. When the darkness comes, be the one to defend the weak, to bind up the wounds of the afflicted and care for those in need. And then keep holding space in your mind for light, love and a better day. Expect the best! Peace!
