Limits are Imaginary

by Matt Johnson

As you meditate and study wisdom teachings (I strongly recommend the University of Metaphysical Sciences), you begin to slowly realize that everything is one. Everything is one thing. Everything is connected. As “The Kybalion” states, “everything is mind, the Universe is mental”.

So what does this mean for you? This means you can do whatever you want. You might say to yourself…I am too old. That ship has sailed. I am stuck in a dead end job, a crappy marriage, terrible debt, etc etc. I get it. From an earthly perspective, things can seem overwhelming and impossible.

I am reminded of the conversation between Luke Skywalker and Yoda in “The Empire Strikes Back” where Yoda is trying to show Luke how far his telekinetic powers can go. Luke has some ability, but his lack of belief is limiting what he can accomplish. Yoda teaches him that there are no limits. The only limit is your imagination. Yoda is elderly and small, but he is able to lift an entire spaceship out of the swamp with the power of his mind. Luke, who is over twice his size and very young, can’t do it. The difference is mental not physical.

Many have used this little snippet from the Star Wars saga to teach on faith, the law of attraction and many other different things. I have heard it over and over. The reason so many use this scene is because it is so powerful!

What is it you want to do? What is it you need? One step on the road is to learn the law of attraction. That is very powerful and many have learned how to use it by reading and studying the popular book “The Secret”. You can use that as a starting point. It is a great book.

Make a list of the things you want to do. Do you want to get into shape? Do you want to write a book? Do you want to learn Spanish or play the guitar? Do you want a better job? Figure out what you really want.

Then, set a goal on how to do it and when it must be done by. I learned this from a modern magician named Jason Augustus Newcomb. The secret to powerful and successful magic (which is the exact same thing as the law of attraction) is goal setting. It seems mundane and not very magical, but do it. Things WILL happen.

There is also a step beyond all of that. This is something I have learned from Christine Breese, but also something I learned as a young man. Let go and let God. Give up all your plans and surrender to the Divine Plan of the Universe. This is the true Christian way and also the way of Taoism. Go with the flow. Decide to simply love everyone as Jesus did no matter how gross or crappy they might be…including yourself. Especially yourself. As situations arise, let them come and go like leaves floating on a stream. Surrender to the Universe and see where it takes you. Things will occur to you out of the blue. The stories will come and you will write them. You will find the willpower to eat properly, avoid bad habits, exercise and meditate. The discipline to do all sorts of things will now be yours. Things that seemed important and pressing may fade away and be replaced by more important work like loving the people in your life right here and now.

You will no longer be triggered and emotionally spun out by people or circumstances. You will be “zen” like a Buddhist monk. Pursue a mind like Buddha and a heart like Christ. Undisturbed and also full of love. In this sweet spot of “vacancy of mind” and openness to being one with the eternal consciousness of the Universe, all sorts of doors will be opened to you. Getting your X-Wing out of the swamp will be no big deal anymore. You might even think to yourself…this swamp is actually the perfect place for me to settle down and hone my skills as a Jedi. This swamp is beautiful. I am content. I need nothing else. I am thankful for the simple life the Universe has provided for me. You will realize that some great “Jedi” Masters write books or do very public things, but some of the greatest ones are never known. You could be one of the greatest Masters of all time and wash dishes for a living. Such was the lesson Yoda tried to teach.

Or the Universe may send you forth from that swamp to save the galaxy from the forces of evil. Who knows. The limits are imaginary.
